Notifications and Notification Center

The app surfaces two kinds of notifications: transient toasts that appear briefly on screen after an action, and the Notification Center — a persistent history panel where you can review anything you missed.

Transient notifications

Toasts pop up in the lower-right corner after most actions: saving, renaming, archiving, moving, or publishing a note, as well as errors and external-file-change conflicts.

Multiple notifications stack. When several happen in quick succession, they stack vertically — newest on top — instead of overlapping. Each one lives independently and dismisses on its own schedule.

Some carry action buttons. Toasts that require a decision stay on screen until you act:

SituationToast action buttons
External file conflict (another app edited the file while it was open)Reload (load the file's new version) or Keep Mine (overwrite with your in-app version)
Undoable action (e.g. archive, move)Undo

Informational toasts (saved, renamed, published) auto-dismiss after a few seconds without any action needed. Error toasts stay until you dismiss them manually, so you have time to read the message.

Notification Center

The Notification Center is a history panel that lets you review notifications you missed while you were busy in the editor.

Opening it

Three ways to open the Notification Center:

MethodDetail
Bell icon in the headerClick the bell in the top-right cluster of the header bar
Command paletteOpen the palette (Cmd+K) and choose Open Notification Center
Keyboard shortcutMod+Shift+N by default — rebindable in Settings → Shortcuts

When there are unread notifications, the bell icon shows a badge count.

Reading and clearing notifications

The panel lists past notifications newest first, with a relative timestamp beside each one (for example, "2 minutes ago"). Each entry shows the same message and action buttons that appeared in the original toast.

  • Dismiss one entry — click the dismiss button on an individual item.

  • Clear all — click Clear all at the top of the panel to remove every entry at once.

Action buttons in the Notification Center work the same way as in the original toast. If an action is no longer available (for example, the undo window has passed), the button is disabled.

Settings

Notification preferences are in Settings → Notifications:

SettingWhat it controls
History sizeHow many past notifications the Notification Center keeps
Display durationHow long informational toasts stay on screen before auto-dismissing

Changes to these settings take effect immediately — no restart required.
