Inbox search pane
The inbox search pane is a VSCode Find-in-Files–style left panel that searches the full text of all your inbox notes without leaving the app. Results are grouped per note and individual matching lines are highlighted, so you can jump straight to the right spot.
Opening and closing
Three ways to toggle the pane:
Keyboard shortcut — Cmd+Shift+F (default; rebindable in Settings → Shortcuts → "Toggle inbox search pane")
Command palette — type "Toggle inbox search pane" and press Enter
Escape in the search box — closes the pane when focus is in the query input
Pressing the shortcut again — closes the pane if it is already open
The pane opens to the left of the inbox content area. Your inbox layout (text-editor, timeline, or grid) is not affected — the pane sits alongside whichever layout is active.
Searching
Type in the Search notes input to search across all inbox notes. Results appear as you type; a summary line below the input shows the total number of matches and the number of notes with at least one match.
Search toggles
Three toggle buttons sit below the query input:
| Toggle | Label | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Match case | Aa | When active, the search is case-sensitive. Off by default. |
| Whole word | ab| | When active, only whole-word occurrences match (word boundaries on both sides). |
| Regular expression | .* | When active, the query is interpreted as a regular expression. |
You can combine toggles — for example, enable both regex and case-sensitive at the same time.
Reading results
Results are listed as collapsible note groups. Each group shows:
Note title — the note's title in the group header, with the total match count on the right.
Matching lines — each line that contains a match, with the match highlighted and the line number shown on the left.
Click the group header to collapse or expand that note's lines. The header click also opens the note in the inbox area.
Note
Collapsing a group hides its line entries in the pane but does not affect the note itself.
Clicking a result
| What you click | What happens |
|---|---|
| Note group header | Opens that note in the inbox area. |
| A matching line | Opens the note AND scrolls the editor to that line. |
Persistence and resizing
Open state, width, and query are remembered across app restarts, per inbox frame.
Resize by dragging the divider between the search pane and the inbox content area.
The remembered query is restored when you reopen the pane, so you can pick up a search right where you left it.
